Well I struck gold at the Carboot this weekend – first one of the year and I could have spent a fortune. Stall after stall of rummage boxes, my favourite when the items are 50p or 4 for a £1.
There were so many battered vintage suitcases and trunks, I was in heaven! And everything was so cheap! I think I was lucky I took only a set amount with me, otherwise I’d have bought a lot more!!!
Main purchases of the day included a wicker basket for £5, and pair of Mucha art nouvea prints for £5. Lots of random vintage toys from a lady who’s stall was just like an attic, everything from cuddly toys to board games. A vintage hand held mirror for 50p and a kitsch cherry vase also for 50p!
But my favourite find of the day were the vintage wind up toys!!! I’ve never seen ones like this before – never seen a ladybird or frog!! The gentleman on the stall had a table top full of them – and It was really difficult to chose!

There’s not many places nowadays where you can get a decent drink and cake, where your surrounded in beautiful decor and you can just basically switch off from the busy hustle and bustle of everyday life. Especially in a busy place like York, the latter is the hardest to find, with so many chain cafes popping up it’s getting harder to find a place with a bit of character. Don’t get me wrong I do love a good Starbucks, but sometimes you just want something a little bit different! Wandering down the Shambles the other day, I found the answer to all my needs –The Flax and Twine Cafe – It’s one of those places that you want to keep as a secret from the rest of the world but at the same time shout about it from the rooftops!

From the moment you walk in you know you are in for something special and are treated to a real feast for the eyes! You quite literally dont know where to look! Every surface is filled with quirky trinkets, and vintage finds – with everything from cupcake cases to beautiful lampshades and ribbons. The lovely  cafe upstairs offers lots of treats – and if your lucky enough you can get a seat by the window to watch the world go by. For the creative types they also offer crafty workshops – the next one being make your own vintage purse, more details on their website.

I look forward to my next visit – I know I won’t be staying away for long!

So very sad to hear the news that The House Of Avalon vintage shop is to close at the end of the month. Easily one of my favourite vintage shops – set out over two rooms one full of beautiful vintage clothing and accessories and the other a quirky little tea room complete with ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ on play. It will be such a loss to York , as it’s so much nicer to have a cup of tea sitting in there, surrounded by vintage memorabilia.

I’ve bought some of my very favourite vintage pieces from there, including a beautiful pink prom style dress from the fashion show they put on before Christmas and my cropped floral jacket that I bought on the opening day.

Such a shame to see the shop disappear.

Awwwwwww big style crush for Zooey Deschanel right now, with her new programme on tv right now it makes Friday nights worth staying in for, just to see what she’s wearing.

I love the quirky vintage style she has  going on, and gorgeous wavy hair to match – the way she puts clothes together whether its casual or dressed up.

At her most recent award show the Golden globes, her nails were amazing painted like mini tuxedos!!

Haworth is fast becoming one of my favourite places to be, having spent a couple of weekends there recently.

Im in love with the steam train that transports you to this amazing cobbled street village, and how there’s something new to see each time I’m there.

Im in love with the cute little shops and the amazing pottery cafe – Cobbles and Clay, where all the staff wear brightly coloured aprons and the best hazelnut latte ever is made, in fact just the best cup of coffee!!

I’m also fast discovering that there are a couple of local cats who seem to be known by all, and enjoy and a good laze around in various places in the village, including Oscar pictured above who enjoyed sharing a sandwich, and the lovely black and white cat who was sunning himself in the door way of Daisy Days
